Yes — and consistently so across three decades. Every vehicle goes through a documented 125-point inspection and comes with a CARFAX history report. The 30-day return policy backs every purchase. Customer reviews on Google and Trustpilot regularly highlight transparent pricing and low-pressure staff as the standout strengths.

Does CarMax sell new cars?

No — used vehicles only, always. CarMax sells certified pre-owned and used cars exclusively. If a brand-new factory model is what you want, visit a franchised new-car dealership or a manufacturer-run showroom. No new inventory exists on any CarMax retail lot.

What does 'reserved' mean on a CarMax listing?

Reserved status means another buyer has placed a temporary hold on that vehicle and is in the process of arranging financing or scheduling a transfer. It is not a final sale. If that deal falls through, the car returns to available status — usually within 24 to 48 hours.

How much is my car worth — online offer vs. market value?

CarMax offers typically land slightly below private-party listings on Kelley Blue Book. The convenience of a same-day, no-hassle transaction accounts for most of that gap. Get quotes from two or three sources — Carvana, a local dealer, and the online appraisal tool — before accepting any offer.

Is CarMax open on Sunday?

Yes — most CarMax locations are open Sunday from 11 AM to 7 PM. Hours vary by store, so confirm through the location search at carmax.com before making the drive. Some locations in certain states may operate under slightly different Sunday schedules.

Does CarMax lease cars?

No — leasing is not offered at any CarMax location. Every transaction is either a cash purchase or a financed loan. To lease, you will need to visit a franchised dealership or go directly through a manufacturer's financial arm.

Does CarMax have no-haggle pricing?

Yes. CarMax pioneered no-haggle pricing in 1993. The price listed on every vehicle is the final price — no negotiating, no dealer fees, and no pressure tactics. What you see is what you pay on every car at every CarMax location.

How does the CarMax 30-day return policy work?

You can return any CarMax vehicle within 30 days or 1,500 miles of purchase — whichever comes first — for a full refund, for any reason or no reason at all. No restocking fees apply. This policy significantly reduces the risk compared to a standard dealership purchase.

Can I sell my car to CarMax without buying one?

Absolutely. CarMax will buy your car whether or not you purchase a vehicle from them. Visit carmax.com, enter your VIN or license plate, receive an instant online offer valid for 7 days, then bring the car to any CarMax location to complete the sale and receive payment the same day.

What financing options does CarMax offer?

CarMax Auto Finance offers loan terms from 24 to 72 months. You can apply online and receive approval within minutes. CarMax also accepts outside financing from your own bank or credit union. The smart approach is to get pre-approved at your own bank first, then compare that rate with CarMax's offer and choose the lower one.
